League of Legends has undergone a number of adjustments as a result of the preseason. It all started with Patch 12.22, which introduced a slew of modifications to the game.

Riot attempted to introduce extra pings for improved communication in League of Legends during the start of the preseason 2023. One of those pings, however, was utterly misconstrued and has since become the game’s most toxic new feature.

The misconception of Bait Ping

The League community was swamped with comments as soon as the feature was introduced.

Riot planned for the new feature to be utilized as a strategic tool, but players had different plans. Players have started using it as a rope to encourage other players to “hang themselves” or “kys.” The ping’s overall sound and appearance have been tainted by its present use for players.

However, according to the PBE assets leak from HANCOCK on Twitter, we can now see the changes to Riot Games changes to the Bait Ping.

In contrast to the present, the new icon just seems to be a labeled fish hook with a leaf/wing image on the side. However, this will not solve the problem. While Riot had good intentions when they introduced the feature, the community has not exploited it to its full potential.

While the minor change looks nice, it will not solve the overall problem. The only way to do so would be to completely overhaul the appearance and go in a different direction.

However, as it is unlikely, the updated version will be released soon. Hopefully, the ping will be used correctly so that Riot’s vision for League of Legends can be realized.
