Star Shards: Beautiful Little Legends Can Now Be Upgraded Directly

Riot has introduced a brand new buying system via a totally different currency – Star Shards to upgrade Little Legends. Arguably, these cuties are indeed the soul of Teamfight Tactics.

On 18th September, Riot posted an article to share their development progressions and funny moments. They mentioned about Star Shards, a mysterious content that is rolled out without much information aside from Dev Drop.

What is Star Shard

First of all, Star Shard is a currency that intended to completely replace Riot Points (RP), it is not a new content at all, Teamfight Tactics will be the same without it. Star Shard only adds a way for players to upgrade their favorite Little Legends faster and an easier way for Riot to manage TFT on mobile devices (maybe TFT will become a standalone game in the future).

As the collection of Little Legends starting to expand more and more, it was a hard task for any free players who want that specific cutie. Even the TFT developers admit that “We’ve heard your feedback that it simply isn’t worth it to buy dozens of Little Legend Eggs just to get the three-star Little Legend that you want,” lead producer Green Teej said.

Traditionally, Little Legends are only obtainable via opening “Eggs”. Asides from the quickest way – to buy “Eggs” through the in-game store or events, it is pretty hard for free players to collect it in a big amount. Not to mention without cashing in, it is much harder to find the “dream Eggs”, these cuties are usually rewarded randomly, players won’t be able to choose the collection of their favorite Little Legends that they really want.

Where to find it?

Again, the most easiest and obvious way, buy Star Shards. Of course, Riot will do that and with the intention of making it the global currency of TFT, this is inevitable. With the lowest amount starting from 625 RP (5 USD). This is the quickest way for players who see the love of their life getting to 3-star appear in the Game Store, but don’t have enough Star Shard to get it.

Another great way if you play TFT frequently is the TFT Pass+. Starting from this season, when you purchase the Pass+, you will be able to acquire Star Shards alongside with some handy already existed in previous Pass+ rewards (Exclusive Little Legends, Arenas, Eggs, and Boom). So far, as the Star Shards system is fairly new, this is the most money efficent method to earn it.

How to use it?

In the future, the store will be updated with a new section: Little Legends Rotating Store. We don’t know exactly how it works but given by the name of it, maybe after a short period amount of time, the store will renew itself, selling differents Little Legends for players to grab. As you won’t be able to know how long for your favorite cuties to come back, you may have to purchase a few Star Shards pack to fill your inventory up.

Fall Guys also uses Rotating Store where you only have about 1-3 days to purchase your favorite cosmetic pieces.

It’ll take 100 Star Shards to upgrade Rare Little Legends (like Pengu Featherknight) and Pass+ Little Legends (like the Astronaut Molediver and Star Guardian Silverwing) for the 2-Star to 3-Star upgrade only, 125 Star Shards to upgrade Epic Little Legends (like Extra Spicy Featherknight), and 150 Star Shards to upgrade Legendary Little Legends (like Ravenlord Featherknight). Of course, there will be some who can’t be purchased or upgraded, but it only applies for a small quantity compared to the whole scene.

Upgrade, not buy

You are required to own that Little Legend in order to upgrade. Because of the “Eggs” system is remained, this condition will assure that it won’t become absolete.
