All 3 NA LCS representatives suffered devastating losses straight out of day 1 of the Main Event
NA 1st seed Cloud9 face off against EU 3rd seed Fnatic in the opening Bo1 of Worlds 2022 Group Stage. Fans were hoping for an even matchup but the clean execution from Fnatic 5-man teamfights dragged Cloud9’s pick-off comp into their pace and Fnatic got away with an easy 1st blood of the tournament.
Onto group B the expectations are lowered as Evil Geniuses face off against Chinese 1st seed JD Gaming. EG was actually off on a good start leading in gold and experience but that’s just JDG’s usual slow start. As soon as the teamfights start happening EG were hopelessly outmatched as JDG Jungler Kanavi finishes the game 12-1-9 on Viego.
100 Thieves were the only hope left for NA as they only have to face off against SEA team CTBC Flying Oyster. I mean you can’t really lose to a team named Flying Oyster right? Well 100T managed to get beaten by the Oysters as their ADC Shunn goes deathless 10-0-1 on Kai’Sa
As a wise man once says, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. Maybe the slow 1st day might awake something slumbering really really really deep within the LCS boys!
Gen.G were the tournament’s favorites according to most pros and casters. They did not look like one in their opening series against RNG
One of the most anticipated matches of the day, fans were hoping to see a battle between the ‘hyper-carries’ Ruler and GALA. Welp Gen.G decided to put their hyper-carry on a support champion Senna while Wei, Xiaohu and Ming relentless rotations shut down Gen.G’s midlaner Chovy and they tapped out 31 mins later.
Top players like LNG.Doinb or DWG.Showmaker put Gen.G on top of their Worlds tier lists, and for good reasons. But it seems the team has not gotten into their grooves just yet.
Speaking of anticipated games, can’t forget to mention match of the day: T1 vs EDG
LCK legend T1 faces off against reigning Worlds champions EDward Gaming for the 2nd match of Group A. The 2 teams have been on good form, so much hype was generated prior to the drafts. However, the game turned out decisively one-sided for T1 as they hand EDG the quickest loss of the day at 22 mins.
Faker receives his well-deserved Player of the Game for his 7-1-7 performance on Akali, but you cannot pass Oner over for praise. His jungle Lee Sin delivered lots of crucial steals and soaked up much of EDG’s arsenal to allow his teammates to seal the deal.
A crucial win for Faker and company as they’re on a highly contentious group A. Overall Main Event day 1’s final standings are:
Group D will play their first games on day 2 of the Main Event
