Worlds Play-ins day 3: First 3 teams bitterly eliminated

via Riot Games

We have the first 3 names which have to regrettably bid farewell to the year’s ultimate event as day 3 of Worlds play-ins concludes: Chiefs Esports Club, Istanbul Wildcats and Isurus

All 3 teams went 0-4 after day 3 and thus mathematically unable to attain 4th+ place

The results should be unsurprising but nevertheless disappointing for their home fans as the teams are all from weaker LoL regions: Oceania, Turkey and Latin America respectively.

ISW and Isurus’ eliminations also means we have the top 4 of Group B who are guaranteed to stay and fight for a chance to go further in the tournament:

Korean 4th seed DRX burst ahead of the pack while MAD Lions stalled from their huge day 1 headstart. These 2 teams will battle it out tomorrow to decide if DRX could advance directly to the Worlds Group Stage. Chinese representative RNG is closely behind and will only have to face 4th place Saigon Buffalo. However it won’t be easy money – the VCS’s hyper aggressive and unpredictable drafts and playstyle have been charming worldwide audience.

Both of these matchups will be fascinating to follow on day 4.

Group A on the other hand is very much undecided as of day 3

Apart from bottom place Chiefs Esports Club, Beyond Gaming, DetonatioN and LOUD are tied at 2-2 for 3-5th place, with EG and Fnatic only 1 win ahead, sitting at 3-1

LOUD has the advantage of only having to face already eliminated OCE squad Chiefs. Fnatic although defeated EG in their head-to-head matchup will not automatically advance in case they tie with EG in score and will only receive side selection advantage in the tiebreaker per tournament rule.

All 5 teams’ fate will be decided on October 3rd. We will bring you updates on day 4 of Worlds play-ins so stay tuned!
