Zilean joins Udyr (1126 days) and Dr Mundo (1378 days) as a member of the 1000 days without a skin club. Only that it is the 3rd time the Chronokeeper joins. Taric is the closest potential member with 909 days without a skin.
Time has not been kind to old man Zilean, neither has Riot
One of the first champions added on top of the original ones, Zilean maintains the in-game PS1 model of a time long gone. It does not help that Riot has only made 5 skins for the old champion, while newer ones have easily received double the amount.
To be fair, when you have a base model like this, no skin is gonna make him look good. The champion is in dire need of a VGU rework, like the latest Udyr rework
The last released Zilean skin was Sugar Rush on December 17, 2019! That’s 1002 days ago. But the funny part is that this is not the first, but the third time Zilean has not had a new skin in over 1000 days.
Blood Moon was released on May 10, 2015. That makes it over 4,5 years between the last 2 skins the champion received. Fast backwards once more and you have Time Machine, released December 4th, 2011, another crazy 3,5 years gap
No rework or skin in sight for the foreseeable future
So far, Riot has not even hinted at any update for the Chronokeeper in near time. He is not even among the least popular champion in the game, he sits at 51,47% win rate with a 2,98% pick rate globally across all rank in Patch 12.17 according to op.gg
But the champion also has not received much balance changes either, not just VGU. The last time Zilean was adjusted was in Durability Patch 12.10, and Patch 11.22 before that. He’s definitely among the ‘forgotten’ champions in League.
A lot of Zilean mains though, are happy as things are. After all if you’re a Zilean picker you’re probably not overly concerned with his appearance, and the less attention Riot gives him, the longer the champion can be abused for that 50%+ winrate.
