The best European teams square off in the LEC Summer playoffs starting August 26

Rogue is facing MAD Lions in the opener of the European LEC Summer playoffs in just over a week.

G2 has already qualified to Worlds 2022 regardless of this Summer Split results

With their 1st place finish in Summer Split groups and their victory in the Spring Playoffs, G2 has mathematically secured themselves a ticket to Worlds 2022 through Championship points. Rogue will not secure enough points to overtake the Spanish-based team even if they emerge victorious in this playoffs.

Although there technically would be less incentive for them to win more series, being able to brawl with the other best European squads would certainly be invaluable experience for G2 as they will need all the training they can get to go against the giants of the Eastern LPL and LCK. Also, being able to knock their biggest competitions out of the running for Worlds would also being strategic benefits.

Placing top 2 would also net them a ticket to the Group Stage instead of the Play-ins in Worlds, and considering the tough competition from the Chinese and Korean teams, more safety is never excessive.

Either way, G2 Esports will be able to take it easy and watch the rest of their brethren duke it out. They will face Misfits Gaming, who are on their last season in the LEC in the upper bracket semi-finals on August 27.

Rogue vs MAD Lions will be the blockbuster series to kickstart the European playoffs

Can the American Rogue stave off the hungry Spanish Lions? The 2 teams are neck and neck in the groups holding 3rd and 2nd places respectively

Just like with the other upper bracket matchup, winner of this semis will secure at least a top 4 finish, and with that the ticket to Worlds. LEC will be receiving a 4th seed this year due to LPL’s cancellation over the war in Ukraine.

On the lower bracket we have Fnatic facing off against Excel Esports on August 28. Excel defeated Team Vitality in the tiebreaker to seal the fate of the French after they slipped from 2nd place in the groups straight out of the playoffs. Whichever team manages to stay alive have no time to breathe a sigh of relief as the road to Worlds is still 2 grueling Bo5s away.
