League of Legends will see VGU, CGU, and new champions this year
League of Legends has gone a long way and has been through so many changes ever since its release back in 2009. Having gone through half of 2022, players can expect even more updates to the game and champions that will change the title.
When it comes to older champions, we should anticipate not only aesthetic and ability changes, but also a better grasp of the characters and their lore. These reworks should transform the champions into characters they were always meant to be. Alongside the long-awaited reworks, players should prepare for one more champion being released in 2022, The Pride of Nazumah.
Udyr
Udyr is certainly coming to League sooner or later, The base VGU Udyr is fully ready for release as part of the April 18 Champion Roadmap, however, Riot is presently working on the costly Spirit Guard cosmetic package for the jungler.
Udyr’s new abilities may be related to Freljord’s demigods like Volibear, Anivia, and Ornn. This suggests that he will adopt new postures such as a bear, phoenix, boar, and ram. This new version of him has figured out how to control the gods’ spirits that try to incarnate through him.
This update, like other VGUs, will go more into who Udyr truly is, as well as his powers and links to the other Freljord champions.
Skarner
Skarner received the most votes from the VGU earlier this year and will be the second champion to be redesigned after Udyr.
There is no information so far about the updated Skarner’s abilities. Riot Reav3 earlier claimed that they will keep his kidnapping ultimate in some form while attempting to ‘modernize’ it.
Reav3 also revealed some new Crystal Vanguard ideas, implying that he’ll soon be getting updated crystal armor, a sharper claw, and maybe even a more ‘Hextech’ appearance.
Riot has not provided an official release date for the new Skarner, but because he won the Season 12 VGU upgrade vote, League fans should anticipate the Crystal Vanguard update to arrive around 2023.
Aurelion Sol
For the Star Forger, Aurelion Sol will be getting an all-new kind of LoL rework “Comprehensive Gameplay Update (CGU)” as part of League of Legends Season 12.
Riot intended to emphasize the champion’s “dragon fantasy” because they don’t feel he currently lives up to that component of his reputation. Riot will recreate the champion’s kit from the ground up, using the same model, idea, and lore, because the aim of a CGU is to solely change the gameplay. As a consequence, Aurelion Sol’s skills will be altered.
While these changes may take some time to implement, Riot intends to have them accessible to players by the end of the year.
New champion – Pride of Nazumah
Riot has announced the information on the Pride of Nazumah back in April, a champion that is expected to shake up the meta with a high-skill twist in League of Legends Season 12.
Lead Champion Producer Ryan ‘Reav3’ Mireles described the Pride of Nazumah as a “new high skill top lane tank from an unexplored region of Shurima.” The purpose of this champion, according to him, is to introduce a high skill/high complexity tank to the League of Legends roster.
“Our goal with this character is to create a tank who appeals to players who like deep mastery curves and characters who really test your ability to approach fights in clever ways.”
Riot also mentioned that they’d be a little more reliant than other top lane tanks, which may often be outclassed with little money while still being useful in combat.
Riot has a lot to catch up on, and new and intriguing champions are constantly being launched. More information regarding what will happen is expected in the near future.
