League of Legends Worlds 2024 continues to set records in viewership
Despite only being in the second phase, LoL Worlds 2024 has already reached nearly 3 million concurrent viewers at its peak, making it far more popular than any other esports event this year.
What’s surprising is that this level of viewership is happening during the Swiss Stage, which typically draws fewer viewers compared to the more crucial matches like the Finals. However, that’s not the case in 2024.
In comparison, Worlds 2023 didn’t see viewership numbers close to 3 million until much later in the tournament, specifically during the Knockout Stage with the Quarterfinals and Semifinals, according to data from Esports Charts.
On the other hand, Worlds 2024 saw 2.8 million viewers at its peak just on the first day of the Swiss Stage. If the viewership trend continues at this pace, Worlds 2024 could be on its way to shattering significant all-time records, even though it has already become the most-watched esports event of the year.
To put things in perspective, the Final of Worlds 2023 reached a staggering 6.4 million peak concurrent viewers, which is a record-breaking number compared to most esports broadcasts.
No other game comes close to this figure. For instance, one of the biggest Counter-Strike events of 2024, where G2 secured a title in CS2, only managed to hit a peak of 900,000 viewers.
Even though League of Legends is a relatively old game, it remains the undisputed leader in esports when it comes to viewership, and the numbers are likely to climb even higher as the 2024 season nears its Final.
However, much of this growing viewership could be attributed not only to the tournament itself but also to the popularity of co-streamers. Influential streamers like Caedrel each drew over 100,000 viewers during the event, at times overshadowing Riot’s official broadcast.
