Quick Gameplay Thoughts: More Mid-scope updates and their goals

Riot Games will ship more mid-scope updates throughout each season

Riot has done fantastic jobs with all of their mid-scope updates so far in Season 12, restoring some of the champions’ gameplay and mechanics, while keeping their thematic and kits to stay the same.

Players should be satisfied with the mid-scope updates for League of Legends champions so far since Riot Games has given them the thumbs up—the devs will be more active about distributing the ‘mini-reworks’ in the coming season and beyond.

According to the League design team, who revealed their intentions in a recent Quick gameplay Thoughts, this year’s mid-scope changes have been a tremendous success behind the scenes in terms of consistency and in front-facing areas like as social media and play rates. While certain elements—most notably Taliyah’s mini-rework—failed, the effort was a success for all involved.

As a result, the team wishes to increase their workload so as to produce more successful mini-reworks. The goal is to ultimately get to a point where mid-scope updates may exist alongside large champion reworks with a faster turnaround.

When approaching the updates, the design team has three aims in mind: polish up how these champions feel, better define their strategic place in the game, and most importantly cater to players that love them.

Riot began releasing mid-scope updates in an unofficial style in Season 11, and in 2022, the dev team formalized the process a little bit, with 7 to 8 champions getting the improvements so far and two more due in late 2022.

For the time being, the two champions stated above are Gangplank and Rell.
