During a co-stream of the LCS playoffs, popular League of Legends streamer ‘Tyler1’ expressed his excitement about the upcoming “crazy” changes Riot Games has planned for 2025.
Earlier in 2024, Riot Games tried to manage player expectations after one of its developers hinted that the game would change “forever” in 2025. This comment caused quite a stir among the community, with many players speculating about what these drastic changes could involve.
However, Riot’s studio head, Andrei van Roon, stepped in to temper those expectations, saying that the phrase “change League forever” was likely an exaggeration.
Despite these efforts to downplay the excitement, Tyler1 has once again sparked enthusiasm for the 2025 updates. During his co-stream, Tyler1 shared that he had conversations with Riot’s development team and felt more optimistic about the future of the game than ever before. According to him, the upcoming changes are set to be “crazy,” and the developers’ passion for the project was clear.
Tyler1, who has been known for his strong opinions about the game and its updates, admitted that his view of Riot’s League development team has shifted. In the past, he felt that the team was mostly run by “old heads” who were resistant to innovation.
However, after his recent interactions with the current development team, he’s come to believe that a new wave of talent has entered the company. These new developers, he said, are passionate about expanding the game beyond what players currently know.
He described how his meetings with the Riot team were unlike any he’d had before. The developers he spoke to were intensely passionate, with some even “swearing and sweating” as they discussed the upcoming changes. This enthusiasm convinced Tyler1 that the new team is determined to bring bold and exciting innovations to League of Legends.
Although Tyler1 didn’t share any specific details about what’s coming in 2025, he hinted that the changes would be substantial. These could include long-awaited features like a new client update, significant system changes, or even the introduction of voice chat, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Riot Games has already begun rolling out some important updates, starting with the item changes in Patch 14.19, which will adjust the stat efficiency of many Legendary items in the game. This patch is just the beginning of the broader changes expected in 2025, setting the stage for what could be one of the biggest overhauls in League of Legends’ history.
