NA LCS Summer playoffs brackets are set for August 21 after C9 defeats FQ in tiebreaker

We’ve also covered the playoffs of the Chinese LPL and the Korean LCK for those interested.

FlyQuest will have to face Team Liquid in the opening series of the LCS Summer playoffs on August 21

The group stage of the NA LCS Summer is officially over, here are the final standings:

After dropping 0-1 to Cloud9 in the tiebreaker, FlyQuest will have to face the formidable Team Liquid. The squad is in a good form having topped the groups in the Spring Split but not yet able to topple the 2 giants EG and 100 Thieves this time around after also losing to them in the Spring playoffs. However, outside of those 2 Liquid is the biggest threat to other NA squads.

Cloud9 are rewarded with a slightly less challenging Counter Logic Gaming for their tiebreak victory. The 2 teams are quite evenly matched, going 11-8 and 11-7 respectively in the groups, so the upper bracket clash should be a close one.

Losers of these 2 matchups will face TSM and Golden Guardian in the lower bracket. The controversy-ridden TSM recently lost their top laner after Huni announced his retirement, and Golden Guardians’ abysmal results should pose little threats to the other teams in the playoffs. But anything can happen in League, and if an already eliminated LGD can upset MSI champions RNG for example, anything goes.

Winners will find themselves pitted against the 2 juggernauts of the region, EG and 100 Thieves

Should FlyQuest manage to overcome Team Liquid in the Quarter-Finals, they would actually have an easier time than Cloud 9 as they will only have to face 100T. 100T is 2nd in the groups, and although they’re only 1 point behind EG, they did get sweeped 3-0 in the Spring Grand Finals, so it’s safe to say there is a remarkable difference between the 2 teams’ prowess.

Nevertheless it would be interesting to see if the Upper Bracket Finals will be a rematch between the 2 Spring Grand Finalists, or will one of the other top 6 become the new challenger. Or perhaps some miracle will happen and 2 top 6 teams will battle for a spot in the Finals?

I personally doubt it, but we’ll keep an eye on the results for you so stay tuned!
